Lucknow Development Authority Launches Green Corridor Phase 3 Construction
In a significant move to alleviate traffic congestion between the Cantonment area and major roads leading to Ayodhya and Kanpur, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) commenced construction of the third phase of the Green Corridor on Saturday. This approximately 5-kilometer stretch, connecting Pipraghat to Shaheed Path, aims to streamline vehicular movement and enhance urban connectivity in the city.
Key Infrastructure Projects Underway
LDA Vice-Chairperson Prathamesh Kumar conducted a thorough inspection of the corridor on Saturday, issuing directives for several critical infrastructure components. A primary focus is the construction of a 240-meter-long and 12-meter-wide railway overbridge (ROB) at the Pipraghat railway crossing, pending acquisition of a no-objection certificate from the Cantonment Board. This ROB is expected to eliminate delays caused by railway crossings, significantly improving traffic flow.
Additionally, Kumar instructed the widening of Dilkusha Road from its current 9-meter width to accommodate anticipated traffic increases post-project completion. A four-lane bridge will also be erected from Pipraghat to the G-20 Road, further bolstering the corridor's capacity. An agency has been selected through a tender process, with work slated to begin within a week.
Landfilling and Alignment Review
Landfilling operations are actively progressing along two key segments: a 2.8-kilometer stretch from Pipraghat to the Army land drain and a 2.5-kilometer stretch extending to Shaheed Path. Kumar emphasized the urgency of completing all landfilling before the monsoon season, followed by stone pitching to ensure embankment stability and prevent erosion.
The vice-chairperson also reviewed the corridor alignment between Ekana Cricket Stadium and Kisan Path, ensuring optimal routing for efficiency. In a supportive measure for affected landowners, farmers impacted by land acquisition will receive free land allotments in Wellness City under the LDA's land pooling policy, addressing social concerns while advancing development.
Expected Benefits and Timeline
This phase of the Green Corridor is projected to substantially reduce traffic snarls, particularly during peak hours, by providing a smoother alternative route. The integration of the ROB, widened roads, and new bridge is designed to handle increased vehicular volume, supporting Lucknow's growing urban infrastructure needs. With construction set to accelerate, residents can look forward to improved mobility and reduced commute times upon completion.
