Mumbai Airport Radar Relocation to Gorai Approved, Unlocking Dahisar for Development
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has made a significant announcement. The Airports Authority of India has decided to shift the airport's high-frequency radar from Dahisar to Gorai. This crucial decision received approval from Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu.
Fadnavis shared the news on social media platform X. He confirmed that the state government had already cleared the allocation of land at Gorai for this radar relocation project. The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu for their support.
Long-Standing Urban Development Impasse Resolved
According to reports, this radar issue had been holding up urban development projects in north Mumbai for some time. The situation forced lakhs of people to continue living in old and dilapidated buildings. Union Minister Naidu emphasized that the decision would now help realize the long-standing aspiration of Dahisar residents to own proper homes.
Naidu revealed that the matter had been under discussion for an extended period. He noted that Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, who represents the North Mumbai constituency, had taken it up seriously with the Civil Aviation Ministry. Goyal pushed persistently for a resolution to this development bottleneck.
Major Housing Initiative for Dahisar
The radar relocation opens up substantial opportunities for housing development in Dahisar. Naidu stated that the government is laying groundwork for affordable housing projects in the area. Approximately 1,000 acres of land spread across 6 kilometers will become available for housing initiatives targeting local residents.
With this development, Dahisar is expected to emerge as a hub for ease of living. Naidu emphasized that the decision carefully balances housing needs with aviation safety requirements. He believes it will bring relief to thousands of families while accelerating economic development throughout the region.
Transforming North Mumbai's Landscape
Union Minister Piyush Goyal, who joined discussions virtually, provided additional details about the housing plans. He projected that around 50,000 homes could be built or redeveloped over the next five years. These pakka houses will include basic amenities while generating large-scale employment opportunities.
Goyal acknowledged that resolving this issue was not easy. After years of consistent follow-up, the historic decision became possible through close coordination between central and state governments. He expressed confidence that all stalled projects would begin moving rapidly in the coming months.
The minister stated that North Mumbai would now move forward toward becoming 'Uttam Mumbai' or excellent Mumbai. Goyal credited Chief Minister Fadnavis for promptly allocating alternative land at Gorai, calling the outcome a result of collective efforts.
