In a significant push for Mumbai's suburban rail connectivity, the tender process for the much-anticipated Metro Line 10, linking Thane's Gaimukh to Mira-Bhayander's Shivaji Chowk, is set to commence by December 15, 2025. The announcement was made by Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik following a high-level review meeting.
Project Details and Fast-Tracked Timeline
The Rs 8,000-crore infrastructure project involves constructing a 9.7-kilometer fully elevated corridor. The line will originate at Gaimukh in Thane and traverse through several key localities before terminating at Shivaji Chowk. The identified stations along the route include Gaimukh Retibunder, Chena Gaon, Varsova Gaon, Kashimira, and Miragaon.
Minister Sarnaik shared the update after holding a review meeting at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) headquarters. The meeting was attended by senior officials including Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Mira-Bhayander Commissioner Radha Binod Sharma, and Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Ashwin Kumar Mudgal.
Expected Impact and Commuter Benefits
A primary objective of Line 10 is to alleviate the severe traffic congestion on the perennially clogged Ghodbunder Road. Once operational, the metro is projected to transform daily travel for residents of Thane's expanding suburbs and the Mira-Bhayander region.
Officials estimate that by the year 2031, this corridor will cater to over 4.5 lakh (450,000) commuters each day, providing a faster, cleaner, and more reliable alternative to road transport. It will also enhance access to Mumbai and Mira-Bhayander.
"The project will bring quicker, cleaner and more reliable travel to thousands of daily commuters," stated Minister Sarnaik, emphasizing its role as a crucial link for Thane's rapidly growing suburbs.
Network Integration and Current Status
The line is designed to integrate seamlessly with the broader Mumbai Metro network. It will offer interchange facilities at Gaimukh (for Line 4A) and at Miragaon (for Line 9), enabling smoother cross-city journeys. A dedicated metro depot has been planned at Mogharpada to support operations.
Preparatory work is advancing swiftly. The appointed consultant has already finalized the tender documents, and necessary clearances related to forest land, mangroves, Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), and wildlife zones are currently in progress. The state government has set an ambitious target to complete the entire project by 2030.
This development marks a concrete step forward in addressing the chronic transportation needs of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, promising to significantly improve urban mobility and reduce travel time for lakhs of citizens.
