Noida Authority Unveils Major Road Expansion Plan to Alleviate Delhi-Jewar Airport Traffic
In a significant move to address future transportation challenges, the Noida Authority has announced comprehensive plans to redevelop and expand Pushta Road into a 10-lane bypass. This ambitious infrastructure project aims to create a vital link between the Noida Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway near Gharbara village, specifically designed to ease traffic congestion anticipated with the operationalization of the Noida International Airport in Jewar.
Multi-Project Approach to Create New Traffic Corridor
The Pushta Road expansion is part of a broader strategy involving multiple interconnected projects that will collectively establish a new, efficient route from Delhi to the Yamuna Expressway and onward to the Jewar airport. This integrated approach seeks to provide commuters with alternative pathways, reducing dependence on existing overloaded routes.
Current Infrastructure Projects Underway
Several key projects are already in progress to support this transportation network:
- Chilla Elevated Road: A Rs 893-crore, 5.9-kilometer six-lane stretch connecting Chilla Regulator to Mahamaya Flyover is currently 50% complete, with a deadline set for December next year.
- Elevated Link Proposal: A planned 1.4-kilometer elevated stretch from Mahamaya Flyover to Okhla Bird Sanctuary metro station will directly channel traffic to Pushta Road.
- Pushta Road Upgrade: The existing 31.2-kilometer Pushta Road will be widened from four lanes to six initially, with provisions for future expansion up to ten lanes.
Addressing Future Traffic Concerns
Noida Authority CEO Krishna Karunesh emphasized the necessity of these projects, stating, "At present, the Noida Expressway functions as a key road connecting Noida with Greater Noida and Jewar. However, traffic pressure will increase substantially once the airport becomes operational." This proactive planning reflects concerns about the significant traffic growth expected following the airport's launch.
Additional Infrastructure Under Consideration
Beyond the immediate projects, authorities are conducting a feasibility study for a separate 31.2-kilometer elevated corridor along the same route. A detailed project report is expected following consultant recommendations, with an estimated construction timeline of 24 months once approved.
These comprehensive infrastructure developments represent a strategic response to the region's evolving transportation needs, aiming to provide big relief for commuters navigating between Delhi, Noida, and the upcoming international airport in Jewar.
