Noida Authority Unveils Plan for 1.4 km Elevated Road to Alleviate Traffic Woes

In a significant move to tackle persistent traffic congestion, the Noida Authority has proposed the construction of a 1.4 km elevated road that will link the Mahamaya Flyover with the Yamuna Pushta road, starting from Sector 94. This initiative is strategically designed to decongest the Noida Expressway, which is anticipated to experience a surge in traffic volumes once the Noida International Airport commences commercial operations.

Addressing Peak-Hour Gridlocks

The targeted stretch currently suffers from severe traffic bottlenecks during peak hours. Presently, vehicles heading towards Greater Noida from the DND and Chilla border areas converge with traffic from Noida's internal sectors, such as Sector 15, Sector 16, Sector 18, and Film City, at this junction. This convergence results in hundreds of commuters being trapped in prolonged snarls between the Chilla border and Mahamaya Flyover. Travelers bound for Greater Noida, Jewar, and Agra are particularly affected, with congestion intensifying during both morning and evening rush hours.

Integration with Ongoing Infrastructure Projects

The Authority is concurrently developing the 5.7 km Chilla Elevated Road, which runs parallel to the Mayur Vihar–Noida link road up to Mahamaya Flyover. This project, approximately 46% complete, is slated for completion by 2027. The proposed 1.4 km elevated stretch will serve as a crucial connector, linking the Chilla corridor on one end with the Yamuna Pushta road on the other, thereby creating an alternative route to the Noida Expressway.

Noida CEO Krishna Karunesh emphasized that the elevated road is planned to ensure smoother and more seamless travel for thousands of daily commuters. Upon completion, it will provide a congestion-free corridor for those traveling between Delhi, Noida, and Greater Noida.

Project Approval and Next Steps

Once the proposal receives approval, the Noida Authority will engage the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, to conduct a comprehensive survey, prepare a detailed project report, and finalize the alignment. The project will advance to subsequent stages following the submission of this report.

In a related development, the Noida Authority has approved a Rs 34 crore tender for the reconstruction of the 11.5 km Yamuna Pushta road, which runs along the Yamuna from Sector 94 to Sector 135. The new elevated road will be seamlessly integrated with both the Yamuna Pushta road and Mahamaya Flyover, enabling commuters from Delhi to bypass the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway while traveling towards Greater Noida, Jewar, and Agra.

Feasibility Assessments and Inspections

Earlier this month, teams from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and irrigation department officials conducted inspections at a proposed elevated road site along the Yamuna embankment. These inspections aimed to evaluate the feasibility and alignment of the 31 km-long project, underscoring the comprehensive approach being taken to enhance regional connectivity.
