Patna Metro Construction Blocks Station Road, New Pedestrian Path Eases Access
Patna Metro work disrupts traffic near Junction, new path built

The construction of a major underground metro station near Patna Junction has led to significant traffic changes, with a temporary blockade affecting the main gate area on Station Road. This has disrupted the usual flow of vehicles around the busy railway station roundabout.

Alternative Routes and Pedestrian Pathway

To address the challenges faced by commuters, Patna Metro authorities have implemented several measures. For pedestrians heading to the railway station, an alternative pathway approximately 8 feet wide has been constructed near Mahavir Mandir and Doodh Market. This dedicated walkway aims to provide safer and more convenient access.

For four-wheeler traffic, alternative routes have been officially designated. Vehicles are now being directed via the GPO roundabout and under the Mithapur flyover to bypass the congested zone near the station's main gate.

Scope of the Metro Construction Work

Officials explained that the area near Patna Junction's main gate was acquired for a specific purpose: to construct an underpass connecting the roundabout to Buddha Smriti Park. This underpass is a key component of the project, designed to provide seamless connectivity between the metro station and an existing pedestrian subway.

"This will eliminate the need for commuters to cross busy streets or navigate heavy traffic, significantly enhancing safety and convenience," an official stated. In addition to the underpass, another critical operation is underway. Workers are preparing an opening shaft for launching a tunnel boring machine, likely by May.

Design and Scale of Patna Junction Metro Station

The Patna Junction metro station is a pivotal part of Corridor II, which stretches from Patna Junction to Patliputra ISBT. It is being developed as an interchange station that will connect with Corridor I (Danapur to Khemnichak via Bailey Road).

This station is set to be larger than others on the network, featuring four entries and exits. It will be equipped with eight lifts and eight escalators to manage passenger flow. The station's concourse will be built at a depth of roughly 8 meters below the current ground level.

The design includes two platforms, arranged with the platform for Corridor II constructed above the platform for Corridor I, facilitating easy transfers between the two lines.
