Toll Hikes on NICE Road, E-City Flyover, Attibele Highway from July 1
Toll Hikes on NICE Road, E-City Flyover, Attibele Highway

Starting July 1, 2026, commuters using NICE Road, the E-City flyover, and the Attibele highway in Bengaluru will pay higher toll charges. The revised rates apply to the Peripheral Road, a semi-ring road stretching 40.8 km from Tumakuru Road to Hosur Road, as well as the 8.1 km Link Road.

Revised Toll Structure and Impact

The toll increase affects daily users of these key routes, which serve as vital links for traffic moving between northern and southern parts of the city. According to the concessionaire, the hike is part of an annual adjustment tied to inflation and maintenance costs. While specific new rates were not detailed in the announcement, sources indicate a uniform increase of approximately 5-7% across vehicle categories.

The Peripheral Road, also known as the Bengaluru-Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor, handles over 100,000 vehicles daily. The E-City flyover and Attibele highway are critical for commuters traveling to and from Electronics City, one of India's major IT hubs.

Background and Commuter Reactions

Regular users expressed frustration over the recurring toll revisions. "This is the third hike in two years, and there is no alternative route that saves time," said Ravi Kumar, a software engineer who commutes daily from Tumakuru Road to Electronics City. The toll increase comes amid broader concerns about infrastructure maintenance and traffic congestion in Bengaluru.

The NICE Road concessionaire has stated that the additional revenue will be used for road repairs, lighting upgrades, and safety measures. However, commuter groups argue that the quality of service has not improved proportionally.

Details of the Routes

The Peripheral Road (40.8 km) connects Tumakuru Road (NH-75) in the north to Hosur Road (NH-44) in the south, providing a bypass through the western and southern outskirts. The Link Road (8.1 km) connects the Peripheral Road to the NICE Road junction near Kengeri. Both roads are part of the larger NICE Corridor project, which includes elevated sections and flyovers.

The E-City flyover, a 2.5 km stretch, and the Attibele highway (part of Hosur Road) are also subject to the revised tolls. These routes are frequently congested during peak hours, with average speeds dropping below 20 km/h.

Future Outlook

Transport officials indicated that further toll adjustments may be considered later this year based on traffic studies and cost reviews. Meanwhile, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has not announced any changes to bus fares on these routes, which remain a cheaper alternative for some commuters.
