UP Govt Allocates Rs 3,000 Crore for Affordable Housing in Western UP Cities
UP Govt Earmarks Rs 3,000 Crore for Affordable Housing in 4 Cities

The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step toward addressing the housing needs in western Uttar Pradesh by earmarking a substantial budget of close to Rs 3,000 crore. This financial allocation is specifically aimed at developing affordable housing units across four key cities: Agra, Mathura-Vrindavan, Moradabad, and Bagpat. The initiative is designed to benefit numerous families residing in these areas by establishing well-planned townships equipped with modern amenities.

Strategic Allocation and Project Approval

Approved in January, the funds will be utilized primarily for land aggregation, which is essential for the development of these greenfield townships. The proposals were forwarded by local housing development authorities to the state housing department last year, seeking seed capital under the Uttar Pradesh township policy to kickstart the projects. This move underscores the government's commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure and providing quality living spaces.

City-Wise Breakdown of the Projects

Each city has been allocated resources based on its specific requirements and potential for development:

  • Moradabad: Receiving the maximum amount of funds, Rs 1,373 crore, this project involves acquiring land from more than a dozen villages to develop a 1,250-acre residential layout. The funding is a collaborative effort between the housing department and the Moradabad Development Authority. Officials are currently engaged in deliberations with farmers from the Didaura locality to facilitate land pooling, emphasizing the benefits of the policy.
  • Mathura-Vrindavan: As a popular religious destination, Mathura has been gifted with two township projects in the Chhata and Rahimpur localities, situated approximately 40 kilometers apart. The total budget for these developments is Rs 780 crore, aimed at creating housing solutions that cater to both residents and pilgrims.
  • Agra: The township in Agra will be established in the Rahankalan locality, located between the Agra core city and Etmadpur. An infusion of Rs 750 crore is planned for land acquisition and township development, enhancing the city's residential landscape.
  • Bagpat: The remaining funds will be directed toward land acquisition in Tatiri village, ensuring that Bagpat also benefits from this comprehensive housing initiative.

Infrastructure and Amenities

Officials have assured that the new townships will be equipped with essential infrastructure to ensure a high standard of living. This includes a robust road network, an efficient sewerage system, reliable drinking water supply to households, and uninterrupted power supply. The housing options will comprise both flats and row houses, catering to diverse preferences and needs of the residents.

This ambitious project not only aims to meet the growing demand for affordable housing but also promises to boost local economies and improve the overall quality of life in western Uttar Pradesh. By focusing on modern amenities and strategic planning, the state government is paving the way for sustainable urban development in the region.
