Arunachal Tops Startup Ranking, Northeast States Excel

The government announced the results of the fifth States' Startup Ranking Framework on Friday. Arunachal Pradesh emerged as the clear winner in Category B, which includes states and union territories with populations below one crore. The state earned the prestigious 'Best Performer' designation.

Multiple Honors for Arunachal

Arunachal Pradesh did not just win the top category award. Officials also recognized the state for implementing 'Best Practices' in three crucial reform areas. These areas include creating funding opportunities for new businesses, focusing on innovation and sustainability, and building ecosystem capacity.

Nagaland Gains 'Leader' Status

Nagaland also performed exceptionally well in the same category. The framework named Nagaland a 'Leader' state. The assessment highlighted Nagaland's 'Best Practices' in two specific reform areas. These are providing strong institutional support and improving market access and linkages for startups.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry released an official statement detailing these achievements. The results show a strong overall performance from India's northeastern region.

Northeast Region Dominates the Rankings

Manipur and Meghalaya joined Nagaland as 'Leaders' in Category B. Assam secured a position as an 'Aspiring Leader' in Category A, which covers states with larger populations. Mizoram and Tripura earned recognition as 'Aspiring Leaders' in Category B.

This widespread success highlights the growing entrepreneurial spirit across the northeastern states.

Record Participation Marks a Decade of Startup India

This year's ranking holds special significance. It marks ten years since the national Startup India initiative began in 2016. This flagship program has driven innovation, fostered entrepreneurship, and created jobs nationwide.

The fifth edition saw the highest level of engagement so far. A total of 34 states and union territories participated in the rigorous assessment process. Out of these, 24 submitted complete evidence across all 19 action points defined by the framework.

This high completion rate demonstrates a serious commitment from local governments. They are actively working to develop comprehensive startup ecosystems and promote regional economic growth.

Purpose of the Ranking Framework

The States' Startup Ranking Framework serves as a vital policy tool. It measures how effectively different state and union territory governments are supporting startup growth. The framework encourages healthy competition and collaboration among these governments.

Ultimately, the goal is to build strong, well-functioning startup ecosystems in every corner of the country. The latest results suggest significant progress, especially in the northeastern region.
