Chennai: IIT Madras has incubated more than 100 startups for the second consecutive year, with 112 startups incubated in the 2025-26 financial year. This achievement brings the total number of startups on the campus to 567.
The portfolio of these startups is collectively valued at over Rs 74,100 crore. The newly incubated startups span a wide range of sectors, including manufacturing, robotics, automotive, batteries, defence, aerospace, artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum technologies, analytics, fintech, healthtech, agritech, biotech, climate technologies, IoT, and cyber-physical systems.
In addition to startup incubation, the institute filed 431 patents in the past year in frontier areas such as quantum technologies, semiconductors, robotics, advanced manufacturing, photonics, and advanced materials.
"These milestones reflect the culture of innovation that has taken deep roots across IIT-M. It also demonstrates our commitment to translating research into real impact," said Director V Kamakoti.
"IIT-M has built a support system that enables faculty, students and researchers to navigate the IP journey efficiently, from early-stage disclosures to long-term portfolio management," said Professor Manu Santhanam, Dean of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (ICSR) at IIT-M.
Tamaswati Ghosh, CEO of the IIT-M Incubation Cell, said, "The institute has received more than 1,200 applications from across the country and 112 startups were incubated, maintaining a strong focus on quality and deep tech orientation."
