Nikhil Kamath Applauds Indian Premium Brands on Global Stage

Zerodha co-founder and investor Nikhil Kamath recently shared his excitement on social media. He celebrated the success of Indian brands that are making waves internationally in the premium segment. Kamath used his platform to highlight specific examples of this growing trend.

Social Media Shoutout for Indian Success Stories

Nikhil Kamath posted a visual message on X, formerly known as Twitter. In his post, he directly addressed skeptics who doubted Indian companies could build premium brands for foreign markets. He wrote, "People said Indians can’t build premium brands that work abroad, well here’s Rahul at Subko's flagship store at Dubai Alserkal."

The billionaire investor listed several Indian brands gaining traction overseas. He mentioned Superyou, which now sells in Dubai. He pointed out 11.11, a brand available in New York and even worn by Brad Pitt in a movie without any paid promotion. Kamath also noted Nappa Dori, located on a parallel street to Subko in Dubai's Alserkal area. He clarified he has no personal connection to Nappadori.

The Foundery's Role in Fostering Future Brands

Kamath expressed hope for his own venture, The Foundery. He stated that this initiative "will hopefully create a few brands like this too... Premium, artisan, COOL, Indian brands to the world." The Foundery operates as a 90-day residential launchpad. Nikhil Kamath co-founded it with Kishore Biyani.

This program provides entrepreneurs with access to a supportive ecosystem. It includes mentors, operators, strategists, and various experts. Applications for The Foundery close on January 27. Interested individuals can apply through the official website.

Broader Trend of Indian Consumer Brands Expanding Abroad

This movement is not isolated. Reports from last year indicate a clear pattern. Indian consumer companies are increasingly opening stores in Gulf countries. Brands like Anita Dongre, Blue Tokia, Nykaa, The Big Chill, and Titan's Mia have entered the Dubai market since 2024 and into 2025.

Companies are targeting more than just the Indian diaspora abroad. Yash Dongre, COO of Anita Dongre, shared plans in July. The company aims to open over a dozen stores in the GCC region over the mid-to-long term. They already have stores in Dubai, operational since March 2023, and in New York.

Investment activity supports this expansion. In December 2025, Fireside Ventures closed its fourth consumer-focused fund. The fund raised $253 million. It features a more diverse base of investors, or limited partners. The capital will continue backing early-stage startups in India, fueling further growth.

The global recognition of Indian premium brands marks a significant shift. It demonstrates the evolving capability and ambition of Indian entrepreneurs on the world stage.
