Simple One Gen 2 Electric Scooter Launched in India

Bengaluru-based electric vehicle startup Simple Energy has officially launched the second generation of its flagship scooter, the Simple One Gen 2, in the Indian market. This new iteration builds upon the existing Gen 1.5 model with a host of targeted improvements aimed at refining the design, ride quality, and digital interface, all while keeping the fundamental platform unchanged.

Pricing and Model Variants

The Simple One Gen 2 lineup is offered in three distinct variants, catering to different budget and range requirements. The entry-level Simple OneS starts at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.40 lakh. The mid-tier Simple One, equipped with a 4.5kWh battery, is priced at Rs 1.70 lakh. The top-of-the-line variant, featuring a new 5kWh battery pack, commands a price of Rs 1.78 lakh. In a significant move to boost consumer confidence, Simple Energy has announced a lifetime warranty for the entire Gen 2 range.

Key Upgrades and Enhanced Performance

While retaining a familiar silhouette, the Gen 2 model introduces subtle styling tweaks for a cleaner look. The engineers have focused on improving the riding dynamics by reworking key structural mounting points to increase chassis stiffness, promising a more precise and confident feel on the road.

Safety receives a boost with strengthened battery crash protection. The suspension has been recalibrated, and the seat height is now 16mm lower for better accessibility. A revised tyre compound aims to enhance stability, particularly at higher speeds.

The headline upgrade comes in the form of a new, lighter 5kWh battery pack for the top variant. Its weight has been reduced from 34kg to 30kg, contributing to better efficiency. This battery is paired with a motor producing 8.8kW of peak power and 72Nm of torque, enabling a claimed IDC range of 265km. The 4.5kWh variant offers a 236km range, while the OneS continues with a 3.7kWh battery and a 190km claimed range, matched with a 6.4kW motor.

Digital Features and Practicality

The digital experience is governed by the updated SimpleOS. It introduces two new riding modes: EcoX and SonicX. Riders get granular control with four traction control settings and four levels of regenerative braking. Cruise control is offered in two formats: a standard mode for highways and a metro mode for city traffic.

Practicality remains a strong suit, with all variants offering 35 litres of under-seat storage, a front glove box, and a USB charging port. The 5kWh models feature a 7-inch touchscreen TFT, while the OneS gets a non-touch 7-inch TFT unit. Buyers can choose from three colour options: Sonic Red, Aero X, and Asphalt X.

In a teaser for the future, the company also revealed the Simple One Ultra, a higher-spec model powered by a massive 6.5kWh battery claiming an extraordinary IDC range of up to 400km. Its pricing and full launch details will be announced later.
