Kolkata: RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra on Saturday met Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at Nabanna. In a Facebook post, Adhikari said that Malhotra met him on a courtesy call. Sources said they discussed enhancing cooperation to push development initiatives in Bengal.
Significance of the Meeting
The visit assumes significance as the budget session of the assembly will start on June 18, and the state's first BJP government will present the full budget on June 22. In the revised estimate of 2025-26, the state has an outstanding debt of over Rs 7.6 lakh crore.
Financial Challenges Ahead
One of the biggest challenges before the government is to navigate the state's finances to ease this massive debt burden. The meeting between the RBI Governor and the Chief Minister is seen as a step towards addressing these fiscal issues.
