Air India and Thales Forge 10-Year Partnership for Inflight Entertainment Maintenance
In a significant move to bolster its inflight services, Air India has announced a strategic 10-year agreement with Thales for comprehensive maintenance of inflight entertainment (IFE) systems. This partnership, formalized on Monday, underscores Air India's commitment to enhancing passenger experience through reliable and advanced technological support.
Scope of the FlytCARE Agreement
The 'FlytCARE' agreement encompasses a wide range of turn-key support services, including line maintenance, spares management, repairs, and logistics. This initiative will cover Thales' AVANT Up IFE systems installed across 57 Airbus and Boeing aircraft in Air India's fleet. The maintenance services are designed to ensure seamless operation and minimal downtime for these critical systems.
Aircraft Coverage and Installation Details
Under this agreement, the AVANT Up systems will be retrofitted on existing Boeing 777 and 787-8 aircraft. Additionally, new 787-9 and Airbus A350 aircraft will receive these systems as linefit installations over the next two years. This phased approach allows Air India to modernize its fleet efficiently while maintaining operational continuity.
Maintenance Facilities and Regional Leadership
Thales will deliver maintenance and repair services from its facilities located at Delhi and Mumbai airports, providing localized support for Air India's operations. Notably, Air India becomes the first carrier in the Asia Pacific region to operate the AVANT Up solution, which features cutting-edge technology such as 4K HDR touchscreens, USB-C and USB-A charging ports, and dual Bluetooth connectivity.

The contract also includes support for 12 new widebody aircraft equipped with the AVANT Up system, further expanding Air India's capabilities.
