In a significant move to enhance the export ecosystem and provide international market access for local products, the Department of Trade and Commerce of Arunachal Pradesh has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Kolkata, under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The agreement aims to establish an Export Facilitation Cell (EFC) in Itanagar.
MoU Signing Ceremony
The MoU was signed on Thursday in the presence of key officials, including Trade and Commerce Secretary Bullo Mamu, Trade and Commerce Director Sonyung Modi, IIFT Head Dr. K. Rangarajan, and other department officers. The consultant and EFC coordinator with states, X-Cell, IIFT Kolkata, Sumana Das, was also present during the ceremony, according to a press statement from the department.
Objectives of the Export Facilitation Cell
The EFC is expected to serve as a dedicated platform to support local businesses and entrepreneurs in navigating the complexities of international trade. It will provide guidance on export procedures, market research, documentation, and compliance with global standards. The cell aims to bridge the gap between local producers and global markets, thereby boosting the state's export potential.
This initiative is part of the state government's broader strategy to strengthen the export ecosystem and promote economic growth. By leveraging IIFT's expertise in foreign trade, the cell will offer training programs, workshops, and advisory services to stakeholders in Arunachal Pradesh.
Impact on Local Economy
The establishment of the EFC is expected to create new opportunities for local artisans, farmers, and small-scale industries. Products such as handicrafts, organic produce, and traditional textiles from Arunachal Pradesh can now find better access to international buyers. The cell will also help in identifying potential export markets and addressing logistical challenges.
Senior officials expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating that it will play a crucial role in transforming the state's trade landscape. The MoU marks a step forward in aligning Arunachal Pradesh's export activities with national trade policies.
