CII UP Chapter Welcomes High-Level South African Delegation to Lucknow

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Uttar Pradesh chapter recently hosted a significant high-level delegation from South Africa during their official visit to the state capital of Lucknow. The delegation was led by Prof Anil Sooklal, the High Commissioner of South Africa to India, marking a pivotal moment in strengthening international economic relations.

Focus on Expanding Bilateral Trade and Investment

The interaction brought together prominent industry leaders from both regions to explore comprehensive ways to expand bilateral trade, investment, and technology partnerships between South Africa and Uttar Pradesh. Discussions were centered on practical collaboration as Uttar Pradesh continues to strengthen its position as a preferred investment destination in India.

Yawer Ali Shah, the Convenor of the CII MSME and Export Promotion Panel, emphasized the state's robust industrial growth, which offers strong potential for deeper business engagement with South Africa. He highlighted the need for concrete partnerships to boost trade volumes, enable advanced technology transfer, and promote sustainable industrial development across sectors.

Priority Areas for Collaboration Identified

Prof Anil Sooklal pointed out the growing presence of Indian companies across various sectors in South Africa, reflecting the already strong economic ties between the two nations. He identified energy, particularly renewable energy and green hydrogen, as a priority area for future collaboration. Additionally, he revealed that negotiations towards a free trade agreement between India and South Africa are currently underway and are expected to unlock new trade and investment opportunities, further enhancing economic cooperation.

Broad Spectrum of Cooperation Discussed

During the meeting, industry members from both sides discussed potential cooperation in a wide range of fields, including:

  • Agriculture and food processing
  • Manufacturing and industrial development
  • Skills training and human resource development
  • Infrastructure projects and sustainable development initiatives

Participants expressed keen interest in establishing joint ventures and institutional partnerships to leverage mutual strengths and drive economic growth.
