This cinematic project, entirely conceptualized and performed by in-house customs officers—with only cinematography, music, and editing outsourced—has garnered significant acclaim.
The film meticulously outlines the daily duties of customs personnel, who operate at airports, seaports, and inland container depots across India. Their primary tasks include cargo clearance, meticulous handling of import and export documentation, and robust revenue collection through duties, taxes, and tariffs. Submitted to the prestigious 10th Indian World Film Festival in Hyderabad on March 7, 'Right Turn' faced intense competition. From 417 global entries, only 94 films were selected for the official list, and the Visakhapatnam production distinguished itself by earning the Jury Mention Award. Following this success, a special screening was held in Visakhapatnam on Monday, drawing attention from trade communities and officials alike.
Principal Chief Commissioner of Customs and Central Tax, Sanjay Rathi, highlighted the film's core message during the event. He stated, "Officers perform their duties in a structured manner, while stakeholders often face difficult challenges, such as the current Gulf crisis. The message is to understand their problems and facilitate trade to the extent we can, even after office hours if needed, as timely support can make a real difference."
