Delhi-Jaipur Highway Travel Time Set for Major Reduction with New Infrastructure

Travel time between Delhi and Jaipur on the historic Jaipur–Delhi highway via Kotputli is poised for a significant reduction starting April, following the National Highways Authority of India's (NHAI) announcement that it will commission six under-construction bridges and flyovers by March 31. This infrastructure upgrade is expected to transform the commuting experience for thousands of daily travelers.

Substantial Time Savings Expected

Officials have confirmed that these critical upgrades should enable motorists to complete the Delhi-Jaipur journey in approximately 4.5 to 5 hours, bringing travel times remarkably close to those achievable on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway route via the newly constructed Bandikui linkway. This represents a substantial improvement over current travel durations on the traditional highway route.

Comprehensive Infrastructure Enhancement

In an exclusive conversation with TOI, NHAI project director (Jaipur) Ajay Arya elaborated on the authority's comprehensive approach to improving traffic flow and eliminating accident-prone black spots along the Gurgaon-Kotputli-Jaipur section of NH-48. The authority has strategically decided to construct nine underpasses and flyovers to address these challenges.

Already Completed Structures:

  • Flyovers at three crucial locations: Kotputli, Behror, and Dahmi
  • A bridge that has already been opened for traffic at Khatolai

Scheduled March 31 Completion:

  1. Two additional flyovers at Bawal and Shahpura
  2. Three bridges at Sotanala, Neelka, and Neejhar

Arya emphasized, "Once all nine structures are commissioned, travel time between Delhi and Jaipur through NH-48 (Delhi Road) will get reduced to 4.5 to 5 hours." This coordinated infrastructure development represents a significant investment in improving regional connectivity.

Comparative Travel Analysis

Currently, the Delhi Mumbai Expressway via the Bandikui linkway requires approximately 3.5 to 4 hours to reach the DND Flyover. However, from this point, travelers typically face nearly an additional hour to reach the Rao Tularam Marg intersection near the Delhi Cantonment area during peak traffic hours. Notably, NH-48 (Delhi Road via Kotputli) converges at this same intersection, making the travel time comparison particularly relevant for commuters choosing between routes.

The infrastructure improvements along NH-48 are expected to make the traditional highway route increasingly competitive with the expressway alternative, providing travelers with more efficient options for their journeys between these two major metropolitan centers. This development comes as part of broader efforts to enhance India's highway network and improve inter-city connectivity across northern regions.
