Guntur Railway Division Achieves Record Financial and Operational Milestones in 2025-26
The Guntur railway division has demonstrated remarkable progress across multiple fronts during the fiscal year 2025-26, registering substantial growth in earnings, operational efficiency, and passenger service enhancements. The division's comprehensive performance report highlights a period of significant achievement and strategic development.
Financial Performance and Revenue Growth
The division recorded total earnings of Rs 766.57 crore during the year, marking an impressive 7.65% increase over the previous fiscal period. A detailed breakdown reveals that goods revenue alone contributed Rs 452.13 crore to this total, underscoring the division's strength in freight operations.
In March, the division achieved its highest-ever monthly revenue of Rs 61.6 crore, representing the best financial performance since its inception. This milestone was complemented by record freight loading of 0.6 million tonnes, demonstrating enhanced operational capacity and efficiency in cargo handling.
Operational Excellence and Punctuality Improvements
Divisional Railway Manager Sudeshna Sen reported substantial improvements in operational efficiency, with punctuality of mail and express trains reaching 93.12%. This represents a significant 4.65% increase over the previous year's performance. Notably, the division achieved perfect 100% punctuality on 24 separate occasions throughout the year.
"Our strategic location between Guntakal in the south and major northern junctions positions us to play a crucial role in strengthening overall zonal performance," explained Sen during her media briefing.
Freight Operations and Infrastructure Development
The division's freight operations saw substantial activity, with 1,376 crack special trains operated and 2,154 rakes successfully unloaded during the fiscal year. Infrastructure initiatives included energizing cargo terminals linked to thermal power operations and reviving the exclusive cargo rail terminal at New Guntur to facilitate enhanced container movement.
Track infrastructure expansion included completion of doubling work over 14.49 kilometers and addition of 33 kilometers of new railway line. Electrification efforts covered 17.28 track-kilometers, contributing to more sustainable operations.
Passenger Services and Station Modernization
To manage festival rush periods, South Central Railway operated 2,226 special passenger trains through the division. Since January, three Amrit Bharat trains have been introduced, with an additional service between Charlapalli and Shalimar scheduled to commence from April 7.
"Guntur station handled over 66,000 passengers in a single day during Pongal celebrations," noted Sen. Platform extensions have been completed at two stations to accommodate 24-coach trains, with similar work planned at Repalle station.
Station modernization efforts include upgrades at 16 stations under the Amrit Bharat scheme, with Mangalagiri and Cumbum stations ready for inauguration. Passenger amenities have been significantly enhanced with divyang-friendly facilities including ramps, tactile flooring, and dedicated services. Lifts have been installed at key stations, while Guntur station now features a sleeping pod facility with 64 beds. App-based cab services have been launched at four stations for passenger convenience.
Safety, Security, and Environmental Initiatives
The Railway Protection Force recovered stolen property worth ₹65 lakh, rescued 134 missing children, and prevented trafficking of 38 minors. Infrastructure safety was strengthened through comprehensive track renewal, elimination of level crossings, and power line upgrades.
Green initiatives included commissioning solar plants with a total capacity of 2.365 MW, expected to generate 2.928 million units of clean energy annually. These environmental measures align with broader sustainability goals while reducing operational costs.
Staff Welfare and Future Commitments
Staff welfare received considerable attention, with over 500 promotions granted during the year. Medical camps benefited numerous employees and their families, contributing to workforce well-being and productivity.
Sen emphasized the division's ongoing commitment to improving performance, safety standards, and passenger experience in the coming years. "Our achievements this year provide a strong foundation for continued growth and service enhancement," she concluded, highlighting the division's strategic importance within the broader railway network.
