Rajasthan Unveils Advanced Air Cargo Facility in Jaipur to Strengthen Export Infrastructure
In a significant move to bolster export capabilities, the Rajasthan Small Industries Corporation Ltd (Rajsico) has inaugurated a cutting-edge air cargo facility at the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Jaipur. This development is part of the Central Government's Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES), designed to enhance trade logistics across the nation.
Strategic Vision for MSME Integration into Global Markets
A senior official from the industries department emphasized that this newly established facility serves as an extension of the existing air cargo complex. Its primary objective is to improve logistics efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and boost export competitiveness, with a special focus on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The official highlighted that the facility is poised to integrate Rajasthan's MSMEs into global value chains by offering access to world-class infrastructure and seamless logistics services.
Enhanced Capacity and Key Features of the Facility
The air cargo hub is equipped to handle between 8,000 and 10,000 export-import parcels daily, marking a substantial increase in cargo processing capacity. Among its standout features is a 100-metric-tonne cold storage unit, specifically designed to support the export of perishable goods by ensuring temperature-controlled storage. This addition is expected to benefit agricultural and food-based industries in the region.
Advanced cargo handling systems have been integrated into the complex, including conveyorised sorting mechanisms and scanning technologies. A sophisticated warehouse management system with QR-based tracking provides end-to-end traceability, enhancing transparency and efficiency in cargo operations.
E-commerce and Customs Facilitation for Global Reach
To further empower MSMEs, an integrated e-commerce facilitation centre has been established within the facility. This centre aims to assist businesses in accessing global platforms such as Amazon, eBay, and Alibaba by offering packaging, labelling, and dispatch support for international shipments. This initiative is set to simplify the process for local enterprises to tap into international markets.
The facility also incorporates an Export Cargo Clearance System (ECCS) to streamline customs processes, reducing bureaucratic delays. In collaboration with India Post, a Dak Niryat Kendra is being developed to simplify export procedures, making it easier for businesses to navigate regulatory requirements.
Impact on Rajasthan's Economic Landscape
This modern air cargo facility is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing Rajasthan's export infrastructure, particularly for MSMEs. By providing robust logistics support and advanced technological systems, it aims to reduce costs and improve the speed of international trade. The development aligns with broader efforts to position Rajasthan as a key player in India's export economy, leveraging strategic initiatives like TIES to foster economic growth and global competitiveness.
