In a significant move to create overseas employment opportunities for its skilled workforce, the Kerala government is set to formalize a partnership with Denmark. A contract will be signed on Thursday for the recruitment of healthcare professionals from the state to work in Denmark's public health sector.
Deal Details and Signing Ceremony
The agreement will be exchanged between senior officials from both sides at the Chief Minister's chamber in Thiruvananthapuram. Representing Denmark will be Kirsten Hansen, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Senior Citizens. The Kerala government will be represented by Ajith Kollassery, the Chief Executive Officer of Norka Roots, the state's nodal agency for the welfare of non-resident Keralites.
This pact marks a structured government-to-government initiative, ensuring a transparent and secure recruitment pathway for candidates. The initial phase will see the recruitment of 100 professionals, and the contract itself is valid for a period of five years.
Professions, Process, and Perks for Candidates
The recruitment drive will focus on filling crucial roles within Denmark's elder care and public health systems. The positions open for application include:
- BSc Nurses
- Social and Healthcare Assistants
- Social and Healthcare Helpers
A major highlight of this opportunity is that the entire recruitment process will be free of cost for applicants. Furthermore, recognizing the importance of language in healthcare delivery, all selected candidates will receive comprehensive Danish language training up to the B2 level of proficiency. This training is essential for effective communication and integration into Danish society and the workplace.
Danish Delegation's Kerala Visit
An eight-member ministerial delegation from Denmark arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday ahead of the signing ceremony. Their itinerary includes high-level meetings with Kerala ministers R Bindu (Higher Education and Social Justice) and Veena George (Health and Women & Child Development).
The delegation is also scheduled for field visits to key medical institutions in the capital city. They will tour the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and the Nursing College, where they are expected to interact directly with nursing students, providing insights into the career opportunities awaiting them in Denmark.
Following the formal handover of the agreement, a Kerala-Denmark Healthcare Recruitment Partnership Meet will be held on Thursday to further discuss the collaboration's implementation and future scope.
This initiative is poised to open a new, reliable channel for skilled healthcare professionals from Kerala, addressing workforce needs in Denmark while providing lucrative and stable career options for the state's youth in a European nation known for its high quality of life and robust social security systems.
