Northern Railways Implements Major Traffic Blocks at Lucknow's Charbagh Station for Infrastructure Development
The Northern Railways Lucknow division has officially announced significant traffic and power block restrictions at the crucial Charbagh railway station, scheduled to be in effect from April 4 to April 11. This eight-day operational disruption is specifically designed to facilitate essential infrastructure development work directly linked to the proposed construction of a new concourse area, a key component of the station's comprehensive modernization program.
Detailed Impact on Platform Operations and Passenger Services
According to official statements, the restrictions will profoundly affect operations at platform number one, where critical activities including shelter removal and foundational work will be executed. A senior railway official elaborated, "The implementation of this eight-day block is a strategic measure to enhance passenger facilities and substantially improve the overall station infrastructure. During this designated period, numerous trains will face cancellations, short-terminations, short-originations, diversions, or reassignments to alternate platforms to ensure safety and operational efficiency."
Comprehensive List of Affected Train Services
The railway authorities have released a detailed schedule of impacted services:
- Cancellations: The Lucknow–Jhansi Memu (Train No. 64702) will remain fully cancelled for the entire duration from April 4 to April 11.
- Partial Cancellations & Short-Terminations: Four passenger trains operating on the Lucknow, Balamau, and Shahjahanpur routes will be either partially cancelled or short-terminated at Alamnagar station.
- Major Diversions: Over a dozen prominent express and mail trains, including the Sabarmati Express, Gorakhpur–Mumbai Express, Bariuni–Gwalior Mail, and the Kashi Vishwanath Express, will be diverted. Their routes will be altered to pass via Aishbagh Junction or Transport Nagar instead of their usual path through Lucknow's Charbagh station.
- Platform Reassignments: In a significant logistical shift, platform changes have been announced for more than 40 trains at Lucknow station. All arrivals and departures originally scheduled for platform number one will be systematically shifted to other available platforms to accommodate the construction work.
Passengers are strongly advised to check the latest updates from Northern Railways and confirm their train schedules well in advance of their planned journeys during this period to avoid inconvenience. The modernization initiative aims to deliver upgraded amenities and a more efficient travel experience for the millions of passengers utilizing this major transportation hub annually.
