Mangaluru Port Welcomes Sugar Export Vessel After Hiatus

In a significant development for maritime trade, the vessel MV New Legacy has called at the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), marking the resumption of bagged sugar export operations after a considerable gap. The ship, laden with 25,000 metric tonnes of Indian refined white sugar, arrived and berthed on April 9, signaling a revival in this key export activity.

Revival of Bagged Sugar Exports

Port officials confirmed that this event signifies the restart of bagged sugar exports at the port, which had been dormant since the vessel's last call on October 6, 2025. To commemorate the occasion, the traffic manager of NMPA, along with his team, extended a warm welcome to the vessel and presented a memento to its master, highlighting the port's commitment to fostering trade relations.

Record-Breaking Coal Dispatch Achievements

In a parallel achievement, JSW Mangalore Coal Terminal Pvt Ltd set a new benchmark in coal dispatch operations. On April 7, the terminal recorded its highest-ever single-day coal dispatch of 38,472 metric tonnes, surpassing the previous record of 34,639 MT set on February 23. This feat was accomplished through a combination of 652 trucks and five rail rakes, showcasing efficient logistics management.

The terminal also established new records in specific dispatch categories:

  • Truck Dispatch: Achieved 18,840 MT, exceeding the earlier high of 17,620 MT recorded on March 5.
  • Rail Dispatch: Reached 19,631 MT, improving upon the previous best of 19,469 MT from February 23 this year.

Healthcare Initiative: AMRIT Pharmacy MoU Signed

In line with directives from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, NMPA has taken a step towards enhancing healthcare access by signing a memorandum of understanding with HLL Lifecare Limited. The agreement aims to establish an AMRIT Pharmacy at the port, focusing on providing affordable and quality medicines, implants, and healthcare products to the public.

The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Surekha Hoskeri, Chief Medical Officer of NMPA, along with senior officials from both NMPA and HLL Lifecare Limited. This initiative underscores the port's dedication to supporting community health and well-being alongside its core trade functions.

These developments collectively highlight New Mangalore Port's dynamic role in boosting export activities, setting operational records, and contributing to public health initiatives, reinforcing its importance in regional and national economic landscapes.
