MP-UP Cooperation Convention 2026 Inaugurated in Varanasi with Focus on Tourism and Economic Growth
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is set to inaugurate the MP-UP Cooperation Convention 2026 at the BLW ground in Varanasi on Tuesday. This significant event aims to strengthen collaboration between the two states, with a primary emphasis on enhancing crowd management strategies at Kashi Vishwanath Dham, implementing modern urban planning techniques, and developing the Kashi-Ujjain-Chitrakoot religious tourism circuit.
Study Tour and Tourism Development
The one-day convention will commence with a detailed study tour of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham. This tour is designed to provide an in-depth analysis of crowd flow patterns, infrastructure layout, and pilgrim management systems. By examining these elements, participants will gain valuable insights into successful models of modern urban planning that can be adapted for religious sites across Madhya Pradesh.
Following the study tour, a tourism round table will be held to discuss the development of the Kashi-Ujjain-Chitrakoot religious tourism circuit. The discussions will focus on creating a structured and coordinated tourism model in collaboration with key stakeholders, including tour operators and IRCTC. The goal is to make religious tourism more organized, attractive, and sustainable in both states.
Economic and Cultural Initiatives
The convention will also feature sessions dedicated to boosting One District One Product (ODOP) initiatives, securing Geographical Indication (GI) tags, and showcasing traditional art, agricultural, and food products. These sessions will cover essential aspects such as branding, marketing, and export strategies, aiming to enhance the global competitiveness of local products.
An exhibition will be organized to display Madhya Pradesh's ODOP products, GI-tagged handicrafts, traditional textiles, investment prospects, and industrial capabilities. Additionally, a workshop will bring together artisans from Chanderi, Maheshwari, and Banarasi silk to develop a Ganga-Narmada Craft Corridor. This initiative seeks to blend traditional crafts with modern market demands, fostering shared branding, expanded market access, and direct opportunities for artisans.
Formalizing Partnerships and Policy Discussions
To solidify cooperation, both states will sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in areas such as trade, industry, skill development, handicrafts, and tourism. These agreements are not merely symbolic but are expected to translate into real opportunities for industries, entrepreneurs, and artisans on the ground.
The convention will provide a comprehensive platform for industry leaders, investors, artisans, agricultural producers, food processors, and policymakers. In-depth discussions will be held on policy incentives, infrastructure development, logistic support, and investment opportunities. The participation of diverse sectors, including textiles and apparel, handicrafts, MSMEs, food processing, logistics, and tourism, will make the event multi-dimensional and impactful.
According to the Madhya Pradesh government's information department, Chief Minister Yadav's conference aims to build a robust economic ecosystem by integrating ODOP, GI tags, traditional crafts, export-ready products, investment, and tourism. His presence is anticipated to shift the focus from policy formulation to actionable cooperation, paving the way for a strong and sustainable development model between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
By leveraging the experiences of Uttar Pradesh, the convention will explore how local products can be made competitive in the global market. Deliberations will focus on presenting the specialties of products from both states under a shared branding approach, creating new opportunities for export promotion and value addition.
This event is expected to strengthen industry-government coordination and create an environment that accelerates investment decisions, ultimately driving tangible economic growth in both Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
