Mulapeta Port Project in Srikakulam Clears Critical Land Hurdle
A significant obstacle for the Mulapeta Port project in Srikakulam district has been resolved, with the Central government issuing orders to transfer 385.24 acres of Naupada salt lands for port development. These lands, previously under Central control, have now been officially allocated to the AP Maritime Board, marking a pivotal step forward for the infrastructure initiative.
Land Allocation Details and Infrastructure Plans
Of the total 385.24 acres, a substantial 296.54 acres have been designated for Phase-I port works, while 88.70 acres are earmarked for essential road and rail connectivity. This allocation addresses a long-standing issue that had delayed progress since the project's inception.
With the clearances now in place, construction will advance on a 12.85 km road connecting NH-16 at Tekkali to the port. Additionally, 88.70 acres are required for a 7.8 km rail line linking Dandugopalapuram Halt on the Chennai–Howrah main line to the port, facilitating robust transport networks.
Progress and Political Contributions
Officials report that nearly 75% of the port works have been completed, with 21% achieved during the previous YSRCP government and over 52% under the current NDA government. Phase-I works are ongoing for a port with a capacity of 23.5 million tonnes across 1,500 acres.
Union Minister for Civil Aviation and Srikakulam MP Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu played a crucial role by engaging in discussions with relevant ministries and the Union Commerce and Industry Department to expedite the land transfer.
Future Outlook and Development Impact
Minister Rammohan Naidu expressed confidence that the resolution of the salt land issue will lead to rapid development in the district once the port becomes operational. He emphasized the NDA government's commitment to completing the project at the earliest, highlighting its potential to boost regional economic growth and connectivity.
The completion of this land allotment paves the way for uninterrupted construction, setting the stage for Mulapeta Port to become a key maritime hub in Andhra Pradesh.
