The Mysuru division of South Western Railway has announced a substantial boost in its fight against ticketless and irregular travel, recording impressive growth in both enforcement cases and revenue generation in the current financial year.
Sharp Rise in November 2025 Performance
By ramping up enforcement actions at stations and on trains, the division detected a significant number of violations. In November 2025 alone, officials registered 18,095 cases of ticketless or irregular travel. This vigorous checking drive resulted in earnings of Rs 89.4 lakh from penalties in that single month.
This marks a notable jump compared to the same period last year. The figures for November 2025 represent a 12% increase in the number of cases and a substantial 21% rise in revenue over November 2024, when 16,071 cases were detected, generating Rs 71.2 lakh.
Eight-Month Financial Year Snapshot Shows Sustained Growth
The positive trend is not limited to a single month. Data from the broader period of the current financial year underscores consistent improvement. From April 1 to November 30, 2025, the Mysuru division registered 1.48 lakh (148,000) ticket checking cases, leading to total revenue of Rs 7.5 crore.
In contrast, during the corresponding eight months of the previous financial year, the division had recorded 1.3 lakh (130,000) cases, which brought in earnings of Rs 6.2 crore. The comparative analysis clearly shows a successful upward trajectory in the division's enforcement efficiency.
Strategy Behind the Success and Future Plans
Railway authorities credit this enhanced performance to a multi-pronged strategy. The division has conducted continuous ticket checking drives, launched special enforcement campaigns, and carried out surprise inspections both at stations and on-board trains. These measures are designed to deter unauthorized travel, encourage compliance with ticketing rules, and ultimately improve the overall experience for legitimate passengers.
The Mysuru division has reiterated its appeal to all passengers to undertake journeys only with valid tickets and the proper travel authority. Looking ahead, with a surge in passenger traffic expected during the upcoming festive and peak travel season, South Western Railway has pledged to further strengthen its ticket checking operations. This intensified drive aims to ensure a safe, fair, and orderly journey for all train passengers.
