Noida International Airport Inaugurated in Jewar, Marking a New Era for Delhi-NCR
The Noida International Airport was formally inaugurated today, introducing a second international airport to the Delhi-National Capital Region. This landmark development is set to alleviate pressure on the Indira Gandhi International Airport while providing a major new travel option for residents of Noida, Greater Noida, and western Uttar Pradesh.
Phase 1: Modern Infrastructure Across 1,334 Hectares
The first phase of the airport spans 1,334 hectares and features a state-of-the-art passenger terminal, a single runway, cargo facilities, aircraft parking stands, and comprehensive supporting infrastructure. Officials have emphasized that this phase is designed to meet current demand while allowing for significant future expansion.
In its initial phase, the airport can accommodate 1.2 crore passengers annually. The terminal is equipped with dozens of check-in counters, boarding gates featuring aerobridges, lounges, and advanced baggage systems to ensure seamless passenger flow from arrival to departure.
Phased Expansion Timeline: From 1.2 Crore to 7 Crore Passengers
The airport's growth will unfold in a structured, multi-phase approach:
- Phase 2 (2030): Once passenger traffic reaches approximately 80% of Phase-1 capacity, expansion will begin. This phase will increase annual capacity to 3 crore passengers, involving terminal building enhancements and the construction of a second runway.
- Phase 3 (2034): A new terminal building will be added, boosting annual capacity to around 5 crore passengers, positioning the airport as one of northern India's largest aviation hubs.
- Phase 4 (2036): The final phase will elevate annual passenger capacity to 7 crore, alongside expansions to the cargo hub and additional infrastructure to support long-term regional aviation growth.
Upon completion of all phases, the airport will cover nearly 4,752 hectares, with land acquisition ongoing across multiple villages to facilitate this ambitious expansion.
Modern Passenger and Cargo Facilities
The newly inaugurated terminal offers 48 check-in counters, domestic and international lounges, multiple boarding gates with aerobridges, and dedicated baggage pickup areas. Designed to rival major international airports, it promises a modern and efficient passenger experience.
Beyond passenger services, the airport will function as a major cargo and logistics hub. Phase 1 alone can handle over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of cargo annually, with plans for substantial increases in future phases to bolster regional trade and logistics.

With flight operations set to commence shortly, the Noida International Airport is poised to significantly enhance connectivity for Noida, Greater Noida, and the broader Delhi-NCR region.
