NWR Hits Record Revenue & 93% Punctuality in 2025-26

North Western Railway Posts Historic Financial and Operational Performance

The North Western Railway (NWR) has announced its most successful year on record for the 2025-26 period, achieving unprecedented revenue figures while dramatically improving service reliability and advancing critical infrastructure projects across its network. General Manager Amitabh revealed these landmark achievements during a press conference held in Jaipur on Thursday, highlighting a comprehensive performance boost across all operational metrics.

Record-Breaking Financial Results and Passenger Growth

The railway zone recorded its highest-ever revenue of Rs 8,622 crore, representing a substantial 7.5% increase compared to the previous fiscal year. This financial milestone was driven by robust performance across both passenger and freight segments. Passenger earnings contributed Rs 3,727 crore to the total, while freight revenue reached Rs 3,865 crore, demonstrating balanced growth across revenue streams.

Passenger traffic reached extraordinary levels with a record 18.45 crore passengers traveling on NWR services during the year. Freight operations also exceeded expectations, with loading volumes touching 30.53 million tonnes – surpassing the ambitious 30 million tonne target set for the period.

Exceptional Punctuality and Service Enhancements

Operational efficiency reached new heights as mail and express train punctuality achieved 93.03%, placing NWR as the second-best performing railway zone nationwide in this critical service metric. This remarkable improvement represents a significant leap in reliability for millions of passengers who depend on NWR services daily.

To accommodate growing demand and enhance passenger experience, NWR implemented multiple service expansions:

  • Operation of 792 special trains comprising 8,039 individual trips
  • Addition of 1,864 temporary coaches to existing services
  • Regularization of 23 previously temporary train services
  • Introduction of 13 new train pairs connecting key destinations

The premium Vande Bharat service network was substantially expanded with new routes connecting Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Udaipur to major hubs including Delhi and Ahmedabad, bringing high-speed connectivity to more regions of Rajasthan.

Comprehensive Infrastructure Modernization

Under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 77 stations across the NWR network are undergoing complete remodeling to transform passenger facilities and operational capabilities. Key stations including Jaisalmer, Barmer, Dausa, Khairthal, Sojat Road, Bandikui, and Somesar are expected to be completed and operational within the coming months.

Major hub stations are seeing accelerated progress, with work at Jaipur Junction and Gandhi Nagar advancing rapidly toward completion. These upgrades represent a fundamental transformation of passenger amenities and operational efficiency across the railway network.

Technological Advancements and Safety Upgrades

Infrastructure modernization extends beyond station improvements, with electrification now covering 99% of the broad gauge network, significantly reducing operational costs and environmental impact. Safety remains a paramount concern, with the implementation of the advanced 'Kavach' train protection system progressing steadily across the network to enhance operational security and prevent accidents.

The combined achievements in revenue generation, punctuality improvement, passenger service expansion, and infrastructure development position North Western Railway as a model of railway modernization and operational excellence within India's transportation sector.
