Railway Board Official Conducts Detailed Inspection at Banaras Railway Station
Sanjay Mishra, the Additional Member for Tourism and Catering of the Railway Board, carried out a thorough inspection of Banaras Railway Station in Varanasi on Sunday. The primary objective of this visit was to assess and enhance passenger amenities, service quality, and revenue-generation initiatives at this key transportation hub.
Comprehensive Review of Passenger Facilities
During the inspection, Mishra was accompanied by senior divisional commercial manager Sheikh Rahman and other railway officials. The team meticulously reviewed a wide array of facilities designed to improve the travel experience for passengers. Key areas of focus included the IRCTC-run Food Plaza and various catering stalls, which are crucial for providing quality food services to travelers.
Other essential amenities examined were the Yatri Niwas and dormitory accommodations, air-conditioned waiting halls, pay-and-use toilets, ticket counters, and Automated Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs). Mishra also evaluated the digital charting system, water vending stalls, and the Rail Coach Restaurant, ensuring that all services meet the required standards for convenience and efficiency.
Assessment of Station Infrastructure and Revenue Initiatives
In addition to passenger facilities, Mishra inspected the station concourse and assessed various assets used in passenger services. A significant part of the inspection was dedicated to the 'One Station One Product' stalls, which promote local handicrafts and generate revenue. At these stalls, Mishra examined the quality, packaging, and pricing of products such as Banarasi sarees and black pottery, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards to boost sales and support local artisans.
This inspection underscores the Railway Board's commitment to upgrading infrastructure and services at major stations like Banaras, aiming to provide a seamless and comfortable journey for passengers while fostering economic growth through innovative initiatives.
