Indian Railways Extends Special Summer Train Services on Key Bihar Routes
In response to the significant increase in passenger traffic during the peak summer travel season, the Indian Railways has announced the extension of services for multiple pairs of special trains operating on crucial routes under the jurisdiction of the East Central Railway (ECR). This strategic decision aims to connect Bihar more effectively with major destinations like Delhi and West Bengal, addressing the seasonal surge in travel demand.
Extended Routes and Operational Details
Saraswati Chandra, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of ECR, confirmed that the extended services will specifically cover three vital routes: the Barauni-New Delhi route, the Darbhanga-New Delhi route, and the Patna-Howrah route. These special trains, initially introduced to handle the summer rush, will now continue their operations until June 1, providing much-needed relief to passengers facing overcrowding and limited availability on regular services.
Managing Passenger Rush and Enhancing Services
The decision to extend these train services was primarily driven by the need to manage the heavy influx of passengers, which includes students returning home, migrant workers traveling for seasonal employment, and families embarking on summer holiday trips. According to Chandra, this extension is expected to alleviate congestion on regular trains, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable travel experience for passengers on these notoriously crowded routes.
Sources within the railway administration revealed that the special trains have been experiencing exceptionally high occupancy rates since their inception, prompting authorities to prolong their operation. To accommodate the growing number of travelers, additional coaches are being deployed, and onboard services are being improved to enhance passenger comfort during the summer period.
Additional Services and Passenger Advisory
In a related development, the railways has also launched a Patna-Gaya daily special service, which will remain operational until April 6. This additional service further underscores the railways' commitment to addressing regional travel needs during the busy season.
Passengers are strongly advised to check the updated schedules and seat availability before planning their journeys to avoid any last-minute inconveniences. The railways has reiterated its dedication to providing safe, comfortable, and convenient travel options throughout the peak summer months, emphasizing its role in supporting the mobility of millions during this critical period.
