Visakhapatnam: Heavy thunderstorms on Tuesday night significantly disrupted flight operations at Visakhapatnam International Airport, leading to the diversion of two flights to alternative airports. According to the Airport director, an Air India Express service from Bangalore to Vizag was diverted to Bhubaneswar, while an IndiGo flight from Hyderabad to Vizag was diverted to Rajahmundry.
Details of Flight Diversions
The Bangalore–Vizag Air India Express flight, originally scheduled to arrive at 4:30 pm, was diverted to Bhubaneswar due to adverse weather conditions. It eventually reached Visakhapatnam at 9:15 pm, causing a delay of nearly five hours. Similarly, the Hyderabad–Vizag IndiGo flight, scheduled to land at 6:40 pm, was diverted to Rajahmundry and finally arrived at Vizag at 8:40 pm.
Impact on Passengers
Passengers on both flights experienced inconvenience due to the last-minute diversions. Airport authorities coordinated with airline staff to ensure smooth handling of the situation. No other flights were reported to be affected, and operations resumed normalcy after the weather improved.
The thunderstorms were part of a broader weather system affecting coastal Andhra Pradesh, with heavy rain and lightning reported in several areas. Travelers are advised to check with their airlines for any updates on flight schedules during such weather events.
