Katra-Amritsar Vande Bharat Train Rerouted via Gurdaspur-Batala for Enhanced Connectivity

In a significant move to boost regional connectivity, the Indian Railways has announced a route change for the premium Vande Bharat Express train operating between Katra in Jammu and Kashmir and Amritsar in Punjab. The train will now run via Gurdaspur and Batala, replacing the previous route through Jalandhar, officials confirmed.

Revised Schedule and Stoppages

The updated schedule for the Vande Bharat Express is as follows:

  • Departure from Katra: The train will leave Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station at 6:40 AM, reaching Amritsar at 11:40 AM on the same day.
  • Return journey: It will depart from Amritsar at 4:40 PM, arriving at Katra by 9:45 PM the same evening.

Key stoppages in both directions include Jammu, Pathankot Cantt, Gurdaspur, and Batala. Notably, the halt has been shifted from Pathankot City to Pathankot Cantonment, aligning with operational efficiencies.

Objectives Behind the Route Change

Railway officials highlighted that the rerouting aims to provide faster and more direct connectivity between Amritsar and Jammu. By avoiding the longer distance via Jalandhar, the new alignment is expected to reduce travel time significantly. This modification responds to high passenger demand and focuses on improving convenience for premium-class travelers, said Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager.

The change also extends Vande Bharat services to Batala and Gurdaspur, benefiting pilgrims heading to the Vaishno Devi shrine and residents in border areas. Officials emphasized that this move will offer safe, modern, and world-class transport facilities, enhancing the overall travel experience.

Passenger Advisory and Future Implications

Passengers are advised to check updated schedules and stoppages through official channels, such as the Indian Railways website, the National Train Enquiry System (NTES), or by dialing 139 before planning their journeys. This rerouting is part of broader efforts to optimize rail networks and cater to evolving travel needs in northern India.
