CHSE Odisha to Introduce Improvement Exam for Class 12 Students

In a significant move to enhance academic opportunities for students, the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) in Odisha has announced the introduction of an improvement examination for students who have cleared the Annual Higher Secondary Examination (AHSE)-2026. This new provision will allow successful candidates to retake an exam in one subject of their choice to improve their grades, as stated by School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond on Wednesday.

Details of the Improvement Examination

The improvement examination is modeled after the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) system, which permits students to reappear in one or more subjects to enhance their scores, primarily for college admissions and competitive cut-offs. Minister Gond emphasized that this initiative will help students achieve better results and compete effectively in national-level examinations.

According to CHSE Controller of Examinations Prasanta Kumar Parida, the improvement examination will be conducted alongside the instant examination in the first week of July. The instant examination is currently held for students who have failed in one subject but have secured a minimum aggregate of 210 marks out of a total score of 600. The improvement examination will be open to both regular and ex-regular students.

Students can visit their respective colleges to fill out the application forms. The fee for the instant examination is set at Rs 620, while the fee for the improvement examination is Rs 820.

Results for both examinations will be declared within 60 days of the exam date. This new policy is expected to provide students with a valuable opportunity to enhance their academic performance and improve their prospects for higher education and career opportunities.
