Agra: Khushi Singh, an 18-year-old from Mursan in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, has emerged as the district topper in the CBSE Class 12 Board examination for the commerce stream, achieving an impressive 98.2%. She studied at Rajendra Lohia Vidya Mandir Inter College in Mursan.
Father's Sacrifices Behind Success
Behind Khushi's academic triumph is her father, Chitarm Singh Baghel, a 47-year-old mechanic who repairs electric motors to support his family. Despite financial constraints, Baghel prioritised education, ensuring that his other two children also pursue higher studies at Delhi University. "Education requires money. I often work 20 hours a day and sometimes borrow from relatives to manage expenses. Their success is my success," Baghel said.
Khushi's Dedication and Aspirations
Khushi has always conducted herself with humility, sincerity, and grace. She devoted eight to ten hours daily to her studies and credited her parents and teachers for her achievement. She aims to crack the UPSC examination to become an IAS officer.
Message to Peers
Khushi has become a beacon of hope for students from modest backgrounds. In her message to children like her, she said, "Focus entirely on what you want to be and work hard." She also requested parents not to compare their children with others.
Celebrations at School
Following the announcement of the board results, celebrations erupted at her school. Former municipal council chairman Ashish Sharma joined teachers in welcoming Khushi with drum beats, sweets, and felicitations.
Teacher's Tribute
Her teacher, Bansi Jalan, shared an emotional tribute: "Seeing Khushi emerge as the district topper feels like a dream fulfilled. Behind this success lie countless silent sacrifices and sleepless nights. Her achievement is a beautiful reminder that true determination always shines through."
Official Congratulations
Sant Prakash, district inspector of schools (DIOS), also extended his congratulations, noting that Khushi "has brought laurels to the district."
CBSE Policy on Merit Lists
While local schools and data confirm Khushi's top performance in the district, it is worth noting that CBSE has not published official topper or merit lists since 2020. This policy is designed to discourage unhealthy competition and reduce academic pressure. Instead, the Board awards merit certificates to the top 0.1% of students in each subject.
