NEET-UG 2026 Cancelled After Whistleblower Exposes Massive Paper Leak
The National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination on 12 May after a whistleblower exposed a significant paper leak that compromised the integrity of the test. The leak involved the circulation of a 'guess paper' containing authentic questions, which was distributed through coaching networks and WhatsApp groups across multiple states.
Whistleblower Alert
A whistleblower tipped off the NTA on 7 May about a leaked paper that was being circulated as a 'guess paper' before the exam. This alert triggered an immediate investigation, which later confirmed that the paper's integrity had been compromised.
Paper Leak Origin
Investigators suspect that the leak may have originated in Nashik, Maharashtra. The operation involved high-definition scanners and a shadow server to reproduce and distribute the paper. The sophisticated nature of the leak suggests a well-organized network.
Guess Paper Circulation
The leaked material was distributed as 'important questions' or 'VIP sets' through coaching networks and WhatsApp groups. This allowed the paper to reach a wide audience before the exam, undermining the fairness of the test.
CBI Investigation
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the probe after the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) uncovered a multi-state network. Several key suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.
Exam Cancellation
The NTA decided to cancel NEET-UG 2026 after verifying that the paper's integrity was compromised. The decision affects approximately 22.79 lakh candidates who were scheduled to take the exam at 5,400 centres across the country.
