According to an official public notice, the NTET 2026 was conducted on April 28, 2026, in a computer-based test mode. The examination was offered in both English and Hindi mediums. This test is specifically designed for postgraduate students of the Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy who aspire to enter the teaching profession. The NTA conducted the exam on behalf of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) and the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH).

A total of 9,368 candidates registered for the NTET 2026 examination, out of which 9,051 candidates actually appeared. This reflects a high turnout rate among registered candidates.

- General-EWS: 265 registered, 261 appeared
- OBC-NCL: 3,072 registered, 2,976 appeared
- SC: 1,129 registered, 1,080 appeared
- ST: 313 registered, 302 appeared
Gender-Wise Statistics
- Male: 3,394 registered, 3,238 appeared
- Female: 5,974 registered, 5,813 appeared
These figures indicate a higher participation from female candidates compared to male candidates.
