Thiruvananthapuram's Career Development Centre Set for May Launch
The Career Development Centre (CDC) located in Karamana, under the labour department, is poised to become fully operational in May. This initiative represents a significant advancement in career guidance and skill development for students and job seekers across the region.
Infrastructure and Readiness
Constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore within the Karamana school compound near the Karamana bridge, the facility has been completed and is currently undergoing final preparations. Officials have confirmed that the infrastructure is fully ready, with only minor arrangements pending before the public opening.
"The infrastructure is fully ready, and only final arrangements are pending. We are targeting to open the centre for public use in May," stated an official closely associated with the project. The inauguration ceremony was conducted last week, marking a key milestone in the centre's development.
Comprehensive Services Offered
The Karamana CDC will provide a wide array of services designed to support career growth and employability. These include:
- Career counselling sessions with expert advisors
- Psychometric assessments to evaluate aptitudes and interests
- Coaching for competitive examinations
- Guidance on higher education and employment opportunities
According to sources in the labour department, CDCs are established as comprehensive hubs that deliver "authentic solutions for all kinds of career issues" through scientific guidance tools and training programmes.
Modern Amenities and Learning Environment
Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the centre features:
- A digital library and reading rooms for research and study
- An online study studio and computer lab for technology-driven learning
- A seminar hall and training rooms for workshops and sessions
These amenities aim to create a blended learning environment that integrates traditional resources with modern technological aids, fostering an effective educational atmosphere.
Kerala's CDC Model and Expansion
Kerala's CDC model is inspired by international practices, focusing on key areas such as career guidance, skill development, aptitude testing, and pre-interview training. The initiative was first launched on a pilot basis in Perambra, Kozhikode, where services are provided free of cost.
Encouraged by the success of the Perambra model, the state has been expanding such centres to other regions. This expansion strategy addresses gaps in career awareness among students and aims to improve employability outcomes on a broader scale.
The Karamana facility is expected to benefit thousands of students in Thiruvananthapuram by offering structured guidance on career planning, higher education pathways, and job opportunities, thereby enhancing their prospects in the competitive job market.
