Women's Leadership Gap Persists: ISB Programme Focuses on Executive Presence

The Persistent Leadership Gap: Women Remain Underrepresented in Senior Roles

Despite measurable progress on diversity goals across many industries, women continue to face significant underrepresentation in senior leadership positions globally. This persistent gap reflects deep-rooted structural and organisational barriers that hinder career advancement. According to the Women in the Workplace 2025 report by McKinsey & Company, women hold just 29 percent of C-suite roles worldwide—a figure that has remained unchanged from 2024, highlighting the stagnation in senior leadership representation.

Organisations Focus on Development Initiatives to Address Imbalance

As companies and institutions examine strategies to correct this imbalance, leadership development and mentorship programmes have emerged as critical areas of focus. Initiatives aimed at strengthening executive presence, enhancing strategic decision-making capabilities, and building organisational influence are increasingly viewed as essential mechanisms to support women's advancement into high-level decision-making roles. These programmes provide structured pathways to develop the skills and networks necessary for career progression.

ISB Executive Education's Women's Leadership Programme: A Structured Approach

Within this broader context, the Women's Leadership Programme offered by ISB Executive Education represents a comprehensive learning initiative designed specifically for mid- to senior-level women professionals. The programme focuses on leadership capability building, strategic thinking development, and professional network expansion—all elements that can significantly support career progression into senior roles.

Building Executive Presence and Strategic Influence

The Women's Leadership Programme provides participants with a carefully structured learning journey that progresses from personal insight development to organisational alignment and ultimately to broader impact creation. Delivered through an innovative blend of live online sessions, individual coaching, peer learning opportunities, and on-campus immersions, the programme concentrates on enhancing self-awareness, critical thinking, negotiation skills, communication abilities, and data-driven decision-making capabilities.

Participants begin by strengthening foundational elements including self-awareness, critical thinking, and emotional agility—building the essential groundwork for authentic leadership. The curriculum then expands to focus on influencing teams effectively, negotiating successfully, shaping organisational culture positively, and leading with both empathy and clear purpose. The final phase emphasises executive communication, innovation cultivation, and developing the confidence necessary to drive meaningful change while articulating a distinct leadership voice.

Reflecting the programme's emphasis on interactive learning and diverse perspectives, Gaathaa Sindhi, Service Delivery Manager at Palo Alto Networks, noted: "The programme was incredibly engaging—whether online or on-campus, every session encouraged discussions, creativity, and new ideas. The faculty made learning interactive and insightful, and connecting with professionals from diverse industries helped me gain fresh perspectives. It also provided a holistic view of diversity, equity, and inclusion, leaving me empowered to implement these learnings for my team and customers."

From Self-Mastery to Organisational Impact: A Three-Module Journey

The curriculum progresses through three integrated modules titled Reimagine Self, Lead Forward, and Amplify Impact—moving systematically from personal leadership insight to organisational alignment and finally to influence and innovation. Participants learn to leverage emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence thoughtfully, foster inclusive workplace cultures, shape organisational strategy with empathy and purpose, and articulate their leadership voice with clarity and conviction.

Intensive group coaching sessions run parallel to these modules, enabling participants to translate theoretical learning into practical action while sustaining long-term professional growth. The programme also creates a robust leadership network that extends beyond the classroom environment, fostering collaboration and peer support among women leaders across various industries and sectors.

Highlighting the programme's flexibility and cohort-driven learning approach, Nandini Himanshu Suthar, Lead UX Designer at Salesforce, shared: "As a new mother, resuming my professional journey felt daunting, but the blended format provided the flexibility I needed to manage my time effectively. The online sessions allowed me to balance learning with my responsibilities, and being part of a diverse cohort of lawyers, designers, and marketers was truly inspiring, helping me apply new insights in my field."

An Immersive, Network-Driven Learning Experience

Designed specifically for women professionals with five or more years of experience—including those preparing for senior roles, managing new teams, or navigating career transitions—the programme offers access to globally recognised ISB faculty, industry speakers, and a vibrant peer cohort. The upcoming cohort runs from March 29 through August 3, 2026, utilizing a blended format of on-campus and live online sessions.

Eligibility requires women professionals with over five years of work experience, with programme fees set at ₹3,00,000 plus applicable taxes. Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate from ISB Executive Education and gain ISB Executive Alumni status, providing continued access to learning resources, professional events, and a global network of peers and mentors.

Applications are currently open for the upcoming cohort of the ISB Executive Education Women's Leadership Programme, offering women leaders a valuable opportunity to strengthen executive presence, expand strategic influence, and lead with purpose in an increasingly complex and dynamic business environment.
