The Research Scholars Association (non-scholarship) at the University of Mysore has urged the university authorities to release scholarships for all eligible students. In a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, the association highlighted a severe disparity: out of 95 research scholars who applied for scholarships, only 20 were granted financial support to pursue their research. This, they stated, is causing immense hardship for the scholars.
Protest at Crawford Hall
To draw attention to their demands, the association staged a protest in front of Crawford Hall, the university's administrative headquarters. The scholars voiced their frustration over the university's alleged mismanagement of funds.
Allegations of Financial Misappropriation
According to the association members, the University of Mysore is spending a staggering Rs 23 crore on non-permanent, non-teaching staff, despite a government directive to relieve them. They claim that these 1,234 non-teaching staff members are being paid salaries illegally. The association further alleged that the university earned over Rs 138 crore in profit from online courses, yet officials claim a lack of funds to provide scholarships for SC/ST students. This, they argue, reflects an anti-student policy.
The scholars demand immediate action from the university administration to release pending scholarships and redirect funds from unnecessary expenditures to support students in need.
