SC Notice to CBSE Over Blank Marksheets for Gulf Students

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) concerning the non-declaration of Class XII results and the issuance of blank marksheets to students in Gulf countries. The matter was raised on behalf of an Indian student residing in Saudi Arabia who allegedly received a marksheet without subject-wise marks despite the declaration of results.

Petition Filed on Behalf of Pransu Patel

The petition was filed on behalf of Pransu Patel by advocates Vineet Jindal and Rajkishore Chaudhary. During the hearing, the Supreme Court sought a response from CBSE and orally directed the board to address the issue and resolve the matter by Friday. The case is scheduled for further hearing on June 12, 2026.

Petition Raises Concerns Over Blank Marksheets

According to the petition, the student was issued a marksheet that did not contain subject-wise marks. The plea states that the issue is not limited to a single candidate and that several CBSE private candidates studying in Gulf countries have faced similar difficulties, including non-declaration of results and discrepancies in marksheets. Advocate Vineet Jindal, writing on X, stated, "CBSE Row: Supreme Court issues notice to CBSE, directs resolution of the matter by Friday." He further noted that the petition concerns students affected by the board’s failure to declare results and the issuance of blank marksheets.

Alleged Violation of Students’ Rights

The petition argues that the issue has serious implications for students whose higher education plans depend on timely and accurate examination results. According to the filing, "This matter directly affects the child's future; the CBSE's action of issuing a blank mark sheet instead of the actual result constitutes a clear violation of Articles 14 and 21." The petitioners contended that students should not face uncertainty after the declaration of examination results and sought immediate intervention from the court.

Court Seeks Response from CBSE

As per details shared by Jindal on X, the Supreme Court issued notice to CBSE regarding the non-declaration of the result of a Gulf-based Class XII student and instructed the board to resolve the issue by Friday. The matter has drawn attention because it is alleged to affect thousands of students residing in Gulf countries. The Supreme Court has directed CBSE to address the concerns raised in the petition and place its response before the court at the next hearing on June 12, 2026.

The petition highlights a systemic problem affecting many students abroad, emphasizing the need for accountability and timely resolution. The court’s intervention underscores the importance of protecting students’ rights to accurate and timely examination results, which are crucial for their academic and career progression.
