The Tamil Nadu school education department has revised its earlier plan and announced that schools for the academic year 2026-2027 will reopen for all classes uniformly on June 4. This decision comes after the department received multiple requests and representations from parents, teachers, and various stakeholders who advocated for a single reopening date for all classes to ensure administrative convenience and to alleviate difficulties faced by families with children in different grades.
Previous Announcement
Earlier, the department had declared a staggered reopening schedule: June 1 for classes IV to XII, and June 4 for classes I to III. However, this plan was reconsidered following feedback highlighting the challenges of managing different schedules within the same family.
Reasons for Change
According to an official release, the uniform reopening date was adopted to streamline administrative processes and avoid confusion. Parents and teachers had expressed concerns about the logistical complexities of having children start school on different days, especially for working parents and those with multiple children.
Additional Information
The department also reminded the public of other useful resources, such as gold and silver rates in Chennai, bank and public holidays, air quality index (AQI), weather updates, and fuel prices (petrol, diesel, CNG, and LPG) in Chennai.
This move is expected to bring relief to thousands of families across Tamil Nadu, ensuring a smoother start to the new academic year.
