Assam Class 12 Results: Science Up 5%, Arts and Commerce Down

The Assam State School Education Board announced the Class 12 results on Tuesday, revealing a five-percentage-point increase in the science stream pass rate compared to last year. However, arts and commerce streams experienced slight declines.

Stream-wise Performance

Science recorded a pass percentage of 89.79%, up from 84.88% in the previous year. Commerce slipped from 82.18% in 2025 to 81.13%, while arts fell from 81.03% to 79.54%. In the vocational stream, 74.19% of students passed the examination.

No Rank Holders List Released

Unlike previous years, the board did not release a list of rank holders. Students who passed celebrated on school campuses, distributing sweets and bursting firecrackers with teachers and friends.

Gender-wise Performance

Arts remained the top choice among girls, while most boys preferred commerce, science, and vocational streams. Across all four streams, girls outperformed boys in pass percentages. The gender gap was most pronounced in arts and vocational streams. In arts, 81.96% of girls passed compared to 76.10% of boys. In vocational, 76.74% of girls passed versus 72.42% of boys. In science, girls achieved a 90.80% pass rate against 89% for boys. In commerce, 82.67% of girls passed compared to 80.45% of boys.

Record Number of Candidates

More than 3.3 lakh candidates appeared for the examination, the highest ever in the Assam state board's Class 12 history. Officials described the overall performance as satisfactory, particularly in science.

Chief Minister's Message

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a social media post, said: "But remember, this is just a stepping stone to a very bright and dynamic future for you all, as India and Assam offer excellent opportunities across every field for you to chase your dreams today."

Background and Government Initiatives

Last year, pass percentages fell across all three major streams by 5% to 7%, prompting officials and academia to closely monitor this year's results following the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP).

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu noted an overall 2% increase in the pass percentage and credited the Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina (MMNM) scheme, launched two years ago to promote higher education among girls and curb child marriage. Under the scheme, the state government provides monthly financial incentives to girl students from Class 11 up to the postgraduate level.

Stream-wise Candidate Numbers

Arts had the highest turnout with 2,41,124 candidates, including 1,41,534 girls and 99,589 boys. Commerce had 19,469 candidates, with 5,945 girls and 13,524 boys. Science had 60,667 candidates, comprising 26,474 girls and 34,193 boys. Vocational stream had 602 girls and 863 boys.
