CBSE re-evaluation delays cause admission crisis for Std XII students
CBSE re-evaluation delays cause admission crisis

Pune: Several CBSE Std XII students are facing an unexpected admission crisis as delays in the board’s re-evaluation process leave them without revised mark sheets to present to colleges for admissions. They have reported losing seats, scholarship opportunities and counselling rounds because institutions are unwilling to wait for pending re-evaluation results.

Student Stories of Lost Opportunities

Nihal Sharma, a student who sought a review of his answer sheet, said his admission to Manipal University was cancelled before the revised marks could arrive. Sharma added, “Due to the delay in re-evaluation results, my admission was cancelled. I completed every required process, but the revised marksheet did not come in time and the university did not wait.”

Aliya Shaikh from Lucknow said, “I applied for re-evaluation of my maths answer book on June 6, but there has been no update. My college wants the final marksheet before June 19. If the result does not come before that, my admission will be cancelled.”

Volume of Re-evaluation Requests

The crisis follows widespread complaints about CBSE’s On-Screen Marking system, including claims of blurred answer-sheet scans, unchecked responses and discrepancies in awarded marks and unexpected reductions after verification. According to data released by the board last week, more than 1.6 lakh students applied for re-evaluation involving nearly 3.8 lakh answer books between June 2 and June 7. Education experts say the volume itself reflects the level of concern among students regarding the original assessment.

Impact on Admissions

With no definitive timeline for revised results, students say they are being punished not for poor performance, but for administrative delays beyond their control. As universities race ahead with admissions, counselling rounds and document verification, students who sought re-evaluation of their CBSE answer sheets say they are left behind, with some already losing seats, and admission opportunities while waiting for revised marks and updated marksheets.

Rehaan Vaidya from Pune, who is seeking admission to an undergraduate data analytics programme at a leading institute in the country, said, “The institute has completed document verification and seat allotment. I am still waiting for my revised result. Every day of delay is reducing my chances of securing a seat.”

Broader Consequences

For many students, the issue extends beyond admissions. Scholarship applications, education loans, hostel allotments and foreign university enrolment processes are also linked to final board marksheets. Several students claim they are unable to complete mandatory documentation despite having secured provisional admission offers.

Vishal Bakshi, a parent from Noida, said, “The anxiety has intensified because counselling and admission schedules continue to move forward irrespective of pending re-evaluation requests. My son said that his prospective colleges are reluctant to give extensions, while some universities insist on verified mark sheets before confirming seats.”

Expert Opinions

Students are not asking for special treatment, a Delhi-based school principal said. “They want reviewed results before the admission windows close. A student should not lose a college seat because an administrative process is pending,” the principal added.

The impact is particularly severe for students applying to competitive programmes in engineering, medicine, law and management, where counselling rounds operate on fixed schedules. Once a seat is allotted to another candidate, opportunities rarely return.

Appeals for Help

Students have flooded social media platforms and grievance portals with appeals for urgent intervention. Many want universities to accept provisional documents until revised results are declared, while others want an expedited re-evaluation process. CBSE officials did not comment on the timeline of re-evaluation results.
