Chennai SSLC Ranking Up, Pass Percentage Hits 92.34%

Chennai district has improved its ranking in the state-level SSLC examinations, moving from 34th position in 2025 to 29th in 2026. The pass percentage for the district also saw a significant increase, reaching 92.34% compared to 90.73% last year. This marks a steady upward trend, as the district was ranked 37th in 2024 and moved to 33rd in 2025 before this year's improvement.

Performance of Government Schools

Government schools in Chennai achieved a pass percentage of 86.25%, up from 82.84% in 2025. A total of 15,840 students from 160 government schools appeared for the examination. Among them, girls outperformed boys with a pass percentage of 89.74%, while boys recorded 82%.

Student Demographics

A total of 62,757 students from the district took the SSLC exam this year. Of these, 31,791 were girls and 30,966 were boys. Girls continued to outshine boys with a pass percentage of 94.54%, compared to 90.08% for boys.

School Performance

Overall, 797 schools from various categories—including private, corporation, Adi Dravidar, and schools run by the education department—participated in the exams. Among these, 207 schools achieved a perfect 100% pass rate, with 29 of them being government schools.

The results reflect the district's consistent efforts to improve educational outcomes, particularly in government schools, which have shown notable progress over the past two years.
