Visually Impaired Students Excel in Class X Exams

In a remarkable display of determination and academic prowess, five visually-impaired students from economically disadvantaged families in Sundargarh district have achieved outstanding results in the recently announced Class X board examinations. Three of these students secured B-1 grades, while the remaining two obtained B-2 grades, setting an inspiring example for others facing similar challenges.

Exceptional Academic Achievement

The students, all affiliated with Deokaran Vidyapeeth in Lathikata block, include Sunita Bhokta (405 marks, B-2 grade), Abdil Kujur (450 marks, B-1 grade), Sanjay Singh (432 marks, B-1 grade), Shradhanjali Purti (405 marks, B-2 grade), and Ranjan Ganju (442 marks, B-1 grade). Among them, Sunita, Abdil, and Shradhanjali have been blind from birth, while Sanjay lost his eyesight during his studies in Class VI. All five students reside in the residential hostel at Radhakrishna Drustihina Vidyalaya, which provides specialized care and education for visually impaired children.

Overcoming Socio-Economic Hurdles

What makes their accomplishment even more noteworthy is their socio-economic background. Every one of these students comes from a family of daily-wage earners, where financial constraints are a constant struggle. Despite these adversities, they have demonstrated that with proper support and unwavering determination, success is attainable. Abdil, Sanjay, and Ranjan achieved the higher B-1 grade, while Sunita and Shradhanjali secured B-2, showcasing commendable performance across the board.

Educational Journey and Support System

The students completed their schooling up to Class VIII at Radhakrishna Drustihina Vidyalaya, an institution recognized for its specialized education for visually impaired students up to that level. They then appeared for the matriculation examination through Deokaran Vidyapeeth, which facilitated their board exam participation. Principal Gopinath Nayak of Deokaran Vidyapeeth praised the students' performance, emphasizing that these results are not just academic milestones but powerful statements of resilience and aspiration. He stated, "These achievements are not merely academic results but statements of determination. Despite the odds, they are nurturing dreams of higher education." Nayak further added that efforts are underway to facilitate their admission into +2 Arts colleges in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, ensuring their educational journey continues.

Future Aspirations and Community Impact

The success of these five students serves as a beacon of hope for the visually impaired community in the region. Their story highlights the importance of inclusive education and the potential that lies within every individual, regardless of physical limitations or economic background. As they prepare to pursue higher studies, their achievement is expected to inspire other students with disabilities to aim for academic excellence.
