72 M.Ed Students Await Degree Certificates from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Since 2023
In a concerning development for higher education, approximately 72 Master of Education (M.Ed) students from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (BAMU) in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar have been left in limbo, awaiting their degree certificates since 2023. The issue, which has persisted for over three years, recently came to the forefront during the university's senate meeting on Saturday, sparking urgent calls for resolution.
University Blames Technical Glitches for Prolonged Delay
University authorities have consistently attributed the delay to technical problems related to data maintenance, but this explanation has done little to assuage the growing frustration among affected students and stakeholders. BAMU senate member Poonam Patil, who raised the matter during the meeting, issued a stern warning, holding university officials accountable for any potential job or educational opportunities lost by the students due to this lapse.
"The university authorities come out with a stock answer that there is a technical issue in generating the degrees. They failed to resolve the issue in the past three years. It is nothing but injustice to the students," Patil emphasized, highlighting the systemic failure that has left students in a state of helplessness.
Database Inconsistencies Hinder Certificate Generation
Investigations reveal that the core of the problem lies in the university's database, where mark-sheets from different semesters of the affected M.Ed students are not properly reflected. This inconsistency has made it impossible to generate the necessary degree certificates, a critical document required for both higher studies and employment applications.
Student activist Tukaram Saraf underscored the urgency of the situation, stating, "Degree certificate is a vital document that is required for higher studies and the job application process. Affected students are feeling helpless as they have been following up for the last three years." His comments reflect the broader anxiety among students who have been diligently pursuing their academic and professional goals, only to be stalled by administrative hurdles.
University Officials Respond with Promises of Action
In response to the senate's queries, BN Dole, director of the board of examinations and evaluation at BAMU, informed the meeting that the university has sought input from the dean of the relevant faculty to address the issue. "Once we get remarks from the dean, we will decide our future course of action," Dole stated, indicating a potential path forward but offering no concrete timeline for resolution.
However, when contacted for comments, dean Vaishali Khaparde cited being occupied with a private event, further delaying the much-needed intervention. This lack of immediate engagement has only fueled concerns about the university's commitment to resolving the matter promptly.
Calls for Immediate Rectification Grow Louder
The prolonged delay has not only impacted the students' academic and career prospects but has also raised questions about the efficiency and accountability of BAMU's administrative processes. As the issue gains traction, there is mounting pressure on the university to expedite the resolution, with stakeholders demanding transparency and swift action to rectify the database errors and issue the pending certificates.
This situation serves as a stark reminder of the critical role that timely administrative support plays in the educational journey, and the need for institutions to prioritize student welfare over bureaucratic delays.
