AKTU Implements SWAYAM-NPTEL Local Chapters for BTech Students
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) in Lucknow has announced a significant move to enhance the credibility of online education for its BTech students. The university will establish SWAYAM-NPTEL local chapters across all its affiliated institutions. These chapters will play a crucial role in verifying and monitoring the online courses that students undertake through Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
New Initiative to Ensure Academic Integrity
AKTU issued detailed instructions to its affiliated colleges regarding this mandatory initiative. The university's vice chancellor, Prof JP Pandey, explained the rationale behind this step. He stated that BTech students are increasingly pursuing various courses on the SWAYAM portal. The credits earned from these MOOCs are added to the students' academic records, making verification essential.
Under this new system, each affiliated college must set up its own SWAYAM-NPTEL local chapter. These chapters will be responsible for monitoring the courses taken by their students. They will maintain detailed records of student progress and upload this information to the local chapter's platform. This process will enable the university to award credits based on the certificates provided by students.
Mandatory Registration for Students
All affiliated colleges are required to implement this process without exception. Students must register through these local chapters to receive academic credit for their MOOCs courses. This ensures a standardized and transparent system for credit transfer.
The initiative aims to streamline the verification of online courses and prevent any discrepancies in academic records. By establishing local chapters, AKTU seeks to maintain the quality and integrity of education while embracing digital learning platforms.
