AKTU Greenlights Major Budget for High-Tech Centers of Excellence

In a significant move to bolster technological education and research, the finance committee of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) in Lucknow has officially approved an annual budget of Rs 1,187.6 crore. This substantial financial allocation, sanctioned on Friday, is strategically designed to establish multiple Centers of Excellence in high-demand technological domains.

Strategic Focus on Cutting-Edge Technologies

The approved budget earmarks considerable resources for the development of specialized centers in Artificial Intelligence (AI), iOS development, space technology, and cyber forensics. These initiatives aim to position AKTU at the forefront of innovation and industry-relevant education.

Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence: A standout allocation of approximately Rs 150 crore has been dedicated to the AI Center of Excellence. This center will operate on a hub and spoke model, facilitating widespread impact across the university's ecosystem. Its primary objectives include fostering innovation, advancing research, supporting startup incubation, and enhancing faculty training programs.

Infrastructure and Facility Upgrades

The finance committee has also given the green light to several proposals for advanced infrastructure enhancements. Key projects include:

  • Mac-based Laboratory: Under the iOS Center of Excellence, a state-of-the-art Mac-based lab will be established to provide students with hands-on experience in iOS development.
  • Space Science Facilities: Specialized infrastructure for space science and satellite systems will be developed to support research and education in aerospace technology.
  • Cyber Forensic Labs: Dedicated facilities for cyber forensic investigations will be set up, addressing the growing need for expertise in cybersecurity and digital forensics.

Vice-Chancellor JP Pandey emphasized the strategic importance of this budgetary decision. "This budget reflects a balanced and forward-looking approach," he stated. Pandey highlighted that the allocations are carefully crafted to not only meet current educational demands but also to anticipate future technological trends, ensuring AKTU remains a leader in technical education and research.
