The Sadar Ferozepur police have uncovered an alleged conspiracy to fraudulently claim insurance money by declaring a living person dead, booking multiple accused, including a doctor.
Details of the Case
The case stems from a complaint dated December 22, 2025. Police said Ramesh Singh, a resident of Gatti Rajo Ke village, allegedly attempted to secure a life insurance policy in the name of his brother, Rakesh Singh, through fraudulent means.
According to the probe, while applying for the policy with Tata AIA Life Insurance Company in Chandigarh on July 2, 2024, the accused reportedly submitted the photograph of another person, Gurjant Singh of Habibwala village, instead of Rakesh Singh.
Premeditated Plan
Investigators suspect the move was part of a premeditated plan to later claim insurance proceeds. The case took a serious turn when police uncovered an alleged fake death certificate.
Police alleged that Ramesh Singh, in connivance with Dr. Satnam Singh Bagichi, arranged a fabricated death certificate showing Rakesh Singh as deceased in a hospital, and attempted to use it to process an insurance claim. The fraud, however, was detected before the claim could be realised.
Legal Action Taken
Following the inquiry, the SHO of Sadar Ferozepur police station submitted a report to the SSP, after which a case was registered under sections related to cheating, forgery, fabrication of documents and criminal conspiracy.
Police said key evidence, including policy documents, application records, photographs and the suspected fake death certificate, has been seized. Further investigation is underway to identify any additional accomplices and to check if similar attempts were made earlier.
Officials said appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing probe.
