Bihar Education Minister Urges Academics to Drive Academic Transformation Through Innovation

Patna: Education Minister Sunil Kumar on Tuesday made a compelling appeal to vice-chancellors and academics across Bihar, urging them to actively contribute innovative ideas and work collectively for the much-needed academic transformation of the state. He emphasized that with conviction, commitment, and cooperation, the challenges obstructing higher education's growth can be easily overcome.

Workshop Focuses on Developing Centers of Excellence

Addressing a day-long workshop on "development of 'centres of excellence' in Bihar", organized by the higher education department in Patna, the minister highlighted the critical need for Bihar to reclaim its historic legacy as a global center of learning. The state government is firmly committed to strengthening higher education institutions and developing centers of excellence through collaboration and innovative approaches.

Minister Kumar further elaborated that institutions must prioritize several key areas:

  • Ensuring quality placements for graduates
  • Promoting a vibrant startup culture
  • Strengthening research output and capabilities
  • Nurturing responsible citizens and human beings

"Above all, our goal is to develop not only skilled graduates but also responsible human beings and proud citizens of the country," he stated emphatically.

Building Globally Competitive Academic Institutions

The workshop served as a platform for deliberating on strengthening the higher education ecosystem in Bihar and developing globally competitive academic institutions. It brought together senior policymakers, vice-chancellors, and principals from 54 selected institutions identified for development as centers of excellence.

Participants engaged in intensive discussions on strategic approaches to:

  1. Enhance academic quality and standards
  2. Boost research capabilities and output
  3. Build institutional capacity for world-class education

Key Addresses Highlight Transformation Needs

Development Commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh, delivering the keynote address, highlighted the imperative for academic institutions to evolve into knowledge hubs capable of driving social and economic transformation. He stressed that universities must strengthen research capabilities, develop robust industry partnerships, and align with emerging technologies to remain relevant and impactful.

Secretary to the Chief Minister, Chandrashekhar Singh, noted that Bihar has made significant progress in expanding access to education and improving literacy rates. He emphasized that, as envisaged under 'Saat Nischay-3', higher education institutions must now focus intensively on quality, research, and institutional excellence.

Emphasis on Research and AI Relevance

Higher Education Secretary Rajiv Raushan stressed the urgent need to improve the quality of higher education and enhance research and academic standards across Bihar's universities. He highlighted the importance of building a strong ecosystem for knowledge creation and innovation to ensure relevance in the age of artificial intelligence.

Earlier in the proceedings, Higher Education Director N K Agrawal, in his welcome address, emphasized the crucial importance of inclusive and quality education in shaping Bihar's future. Deputy Director Deepak Kumar Singh concluded the workshop with a formal vote of thanks, marking the end of a productive day focused on academic advancement.
